Mr. Carruthers was an oiler at the Captain Mine in Percy, and was also a farmer.
He was a member of the B.B.K. American Legion Post 480, Steeleville, and the United Mine Workers 7333 of Percy.
He was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Ava, to H.V. Carruthers and Mary Manor Carruthers.
He married Bonnie Bryant on July 17, 1954, in Murphysboro.
She survives, along with one son and one daughter; one grandson; five brothers and two sisters.
His parents preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 1 p. m. Wednesday in the Wilson Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery.
