His father was William C. Herman and his mother, Rebecca (Fletcher) Herman.

He married Martha May Michael 6 November 1916 Spokane, Spokane County, WA. He was age 26 born Washington and living at Edwall, Lincoln County, WA. She was age 28 born Pennsylvania and living Waverly, Lincoln County, WA. She died 16 April 1954 Spokane, WA. Her father was David Michael and her mother, Amanda (Bunnel) Michael.

His death was very sudden. He died within 3 or 4 minutes in front of the Harrington Citizen Newspaper Office while talking with friends.

Their children were:
Velma R. Herman Heimbigner who lived in Spokane, WA
and
Norman Herman who at the time was stationed with the Marines in southern California.
