The new firm of Burton, Boyd & Company began business Monday morning. The members of the firm are Y. L. Burton, J. H. Boyd and R. P. Burton. They will carry a complete line of dry goods, groceries, etc., and the meat market, ice house and bottling works will also be under their management. The new addition to the building, which has just been completed, will be used as a dry goods department. This building was completed, ready for occupancy in seven weeks. This establishes a new record for house building in LaFayette.

"The LaFayette Sun" - April 21, 1909:

Mr. Y. L. Burton is having the lumber sawed preparatory to adding six rooms to his hotel. This will give him seventeen rooms, and the LaFayette Hotel will then be in better position than ever to take care of its share of the traveling public.

Note: The additional six rooms were made from the large loft area of his house, creating a second floor of living space.
