Gladys I. Clark, 90, formerly of Bedford Township, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.

She was born June 23, 1920 in Battle Creek to Herbert and Hazel (Colles) Green. She had been a resident of Battle Creek since childhood and was a 1938 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School.

Gladys married Wesley E. Clark on January 31, 1942. A short time later, World War II was declared and except for a few furloughs before going overseas, she did not see him again until the war ended in 1945. Wesley preceded her in death on August 17, 2004. They were married 62 years.

Surviving are her son, Jimmy D. (Lynette Love) Clark of Battle Creek; daughter, Cheryl J. (Al) Gutierrez of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; three beloved grandchildren, Lori of Grand Rapids, Laura and Jonathan of Robbinsdale, Minnesota; three sisters, Marguerite (Lewis), Martha (Clark) and Gertrude (Green); several nieces and nephews and many special friends, especially those she met over the last three years at Northpointe Woods.

Gladys enjoyed a very busy life as a wife, mother and homemaker. Above all else, she loved her family, giving freely of her love, time and guidance. She loved to cook delicious meals, to plan parties, and to decorate her home. Gladys was proud of her children and their successes, and she loved her grandchildren unconditionally. She often "wrote her congressmen" to express her support or dissatisfaction with current legislation or events. She voted in every election and would talk politics with anyone. Gladys was proactive concerning her health, her home and her loved ones and she lived her life by the Golden Rule.

At the request of the family, friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Caroline Robinson-Fisher 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Care where Gladys received the special care she so deserved. Every nurse, every aide and volunteer Gladys came in contact with at Good Samaritan Hospice was lovingly supportive, understanding, gentle, and treated her with respect and dignity.
