RETTIE A. ESSHOM
Rettie A. Adcock, daughter of Isom and Didema Adcock, was born Jan. 27, 1868 near Melrose, in Monroe county, Iowa, and departed this life on July 25, 1956 at the Yocom hospital in Chariton, at the advanced age of 88 years, five months and 28 days.
After completing grade school, she attended school at Humeston, taking a normal course, and later taught school a few years until her marriage.
When a young girl she was converted and united with the Wayne United Brethren church, later uniting with the E.U.B. church in Chariton, where she held her membership until her Master called her home.
On Sept. 14, 1893 she was united in marriage to E. A. Esshom, of Marysville, where they began their married life, and in the winter of 1894, moved to a farm near Melrose where they resided unitl the spring of 1900, when they moved to Lucas county and where she has continued to live until her death. On Jan. 24, 1929 her husband passed away after a few months illness.
She was also preceded in death by her father, mother, five brothers, Will, John, Elmer, Orval and Oliver, and four sisters, Rose Foutch, Ethel Bowman, Eva Jones and Estella Adcock.
One brother, C. D. Adcock of Salem, Mo., and one sister, Mrs. Jen Chambers of Cheyenne, Wyo., besides a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives are left to mourn her passing.
Funeral services were held at the Beardsley funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, conducted by the Rev. A. E. Beals and the Rev. Wendell Beggs. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
