Clara made part of the downstairs of the old store into a millenary shop. However, she soon had five young children to care for. Motherhood, helping Oscar in the store, and caring for her ill mother, put an end to her short lived millenary business. However, hat-making became a hobby that she enjoyed throughout her entire life. She sewed her own dress's, never used a pattern and seldom used her sewing machine. Everything she made was hand-stitched. Her creations were always worn with pride to church, weddings, birthday parties, funerals -- including her own! Her dresses were always worn with a brooch or breast pin with matching earrings. She loved jewelry.
