John was born to William Graves and Idora McDowell in 1898. He married Loretta Reynolds on 17 Feb 1919. According to probate records, he was survived by no children.
He died 16 Mar 1948 in an accident on a job site. He was struck by a crane and knocked into the Missouri River. His body was not recovered for three months. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Army in Co. M, 31st Infantry to 15 July 1917; and then in Co. C, 13th Infantry to 18 Apr 1919.

Siblings were: William Albert, Mary Lilly, Albert H., George Henry, Sr., Charles Edward, Henry Joseph, Unknown Child, Elizabeth Catherine, Catherine F., Anna Mae, Richard Dalton.
