Funeral services for Mrs. Avie (Padgett) Jones, 81, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at Monterey United Methodist Church with Rev. Clarence Jared and Rev. Jack Huesman officiating.
Burial was in Whittaker Cemetery in Monterey.
Mrs. Jones died Sunday, Oct. 9. Her love of life, elegance, sense of style, and indomitable will was revered by all who knew her. Dedicated to God and devoted to family, she was especially proud to serve as both mother and best friend to 5 children and she was of the Protestant faith.
Born February 2, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Ada (Williams) Padgett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Frank Jones; a son, Robert Lewis Ford; 5 brothers, A.G. Padgett, R.T. Padgett, M.C. Padgett, J.D. Padgett, and Ray Padgett; 3 sisters, Ethel Phillips, Viola Padgett, and Lena Key; and a grandson, Terry Lynn Ford.
Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Willie Frank �Frankie� Jr. and Susan Jones of Cookeville and John Ronnie and Patricia Ford of Rickman; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Rebecca Jones of Gatlinburg and Cynthia and Michael Clapp of Maryville; a brother, Wilbert Padgett of McMinnville; 9 grandchildren, Tina Zitting, Debra Taylor, Jeff Ford, Elizabeth Howard, Shelia Jared, Jessica Jones, Eric Jones, Nathan Clapp, and Natalie Clapp; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of adoring nephews and nieces.
