Mavis Ballard, 87, of Gatesville, passed away Sept. 3, 2010. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Robert Henline officiating. Burial will follow at Ballard Cemetery. No set time for visitation.
Mavis was born in Pearl, Texas, to the late Joseph Henry and Amelia Carroll Chafin. She married Charlie Ballard on January 29, 1960. Mavis was a member of Gatesville Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 2, 2008; sisters, Uneva Freeman Whatley, Opal Dugger, and Johnnie Spencer; and brothers, Doel Chafin and Curtis Chafin.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Hicks and husband, J.D., of Gatesville; grandchildren, Charlie and Anamelia Voss; brother, Clois (Buck) Chafin, of Killeen; and many other family members and friends.
