Clois "Buck" Carroll Chafin, 87, of Killeen, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his home. He was born September 21, 1935 in Pearl, Coryell County, Texas to Joseph Henry Chafin and Amelia Ann (Carroll) Chafin.

Buck graduated from Pearl High School in 1955. He was drafted into the Army September 4, 1958 until August 10, 1960. After serving in the Motor Pool during the Korean War, he returned home where he worked various jobs for his brother, Curtis Chafin.

He married Martha Ann Helms July 25, 1964 in Belton, Texas. They moved to Killeen in 1968 and have resided there ever since.

Buck worked for the Civil Service at Fort Hood (1966-1988) where he was a Planner, Estimator, and Inspector for Facilities Engineering and Housing. While still working at Fort Hood, Buck became licensed as a Real Estate Salesman in 1975 and as a Broker in 1979. In 1983, he became certified as a Master Residential Appraiser and was designated as a Master Senior Appraiser in 1988. He was also licensed by the State of Texas Real Estate Commission as a Real Estate Inspector in 1989 and performed structural and mechanical inspections for numerous buyers and the Veterans Administration. He was a member of the following professional organizations: Fort Hood Area Board of Realtors, Home Builders Association of Central Texas, Association of Construction Inspectors, and Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors. He started his own business, Bluebonnet Real Estate Inspection Service in September 1989. From 1993-1999 Buck worked for the City of Killeen monitoring construction performed by contractors to ensure that infrastructures built in new subdivisions met City of Killeen codes.

Buck enjoyed time with his family spending many hours on Belton lake. Ginger and Donna cherish the tons of memories from all the days spent on the barge with friends (who they thought were relatives). Dad was the perfect boat driver knowing exactly where and how to pull us to get the best water to ski on. Buck and Martha also loved hosting many a famous fish fry for extended family and friends.

Buck and Martha are members of the Killeen Church of Christ.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents and six older siblings, Uneva, Curtis, Mavis, Doel, Johnnie, and Opal and their spouses. He was also preceded in death by his precious niece, Patsy Chafin Cooke. He is survived by his wife, Martha Chafin, two daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger and Jeff McJunkins, and Donna and Mitch Cogbill, and four grandchildren, Bradley McJunkins, Kaylee Cogbill, Katie McJunkins, and Courtney Cogbill, and great niece, Vicky Johnson and her father Bill Cooke.
