A retired US Army officer, Maj. Davis, 87, had been widowed two months when he joined his late wife in death. Married to the former Anne Marie Lawton, the couple had two sons. Both the Davises and the Lawtons were families with a strong military tradition. Mrs. Davis's father was Louis B. Lawton, a West Point graduate who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for heroism during the Boxer Rebellion in China, and the couple's younger son, Lawton, also joined the "long gray line" at West Point. Tragically, the Major and his wife survived both their children. Lt. Lawton Davis was killed during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945, and his elder brother died at age 35 during a Mexican expedition ten years later.
