From The Palmer Journal, December 17, 1931, page 8, transcribed by Linda Berney:

Roy Sumner Hudnall was born January 10, 1890 near Central City, Neb., and departed this life last Friday evening, Dec. 11, 1931, at the age of 41 years, 11 months, 10 days, following an accident while cutting trees in the NcNeal grove east of Palmer. He was taken to the St. Francis Hospital at Grand Island, as soon as possible, where he expired within twenty minutes after being comfortably located in his room. He was caught under a falling tree and his body was badly crushed and broken. [Another article in the same paper had more details of the accident in which a tree fell a different direction than anticipated.]

Roy was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hudnall who have long been residents of Palmer. His father who was working with him at the time, was badly injured, and will be confined to his bed for sometime.

He was married to Miss Bessie Ferris of Palmer, Nebr., Sept. 24, 1913 at the home of his grandparents in Central City, Nebr. The happy couple soon established their home on his father's farm, southwest of Palmer, where they lived for five yars; then they moved to a farm near Boelus, Nebr, where they lived for eight years.

Here Roy was badly injured in a fall, fracturing his spine, from which he never recovered, though always a patient sufferer, and from which time he has only been able to do light work.

From here they moved to Ericson, Nebr., on a farm for a few months, only to find the farm work too heavy and beyond his endurance, whereupon they returned to Palmer about four years ago.

To this union three children were born: Evelyn E., Della Mae and Albert Edward, all living at home.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and children, his parents, and one sister, Mrs. James Trebilcock of Palmer, a few cousins and a host of friends.

At the early age of 15, he was converted and united with the Pleasant Hill United Brethern Church southwest of Palmer, from which he never removed his membership. Roy has always lived a clean, upright life, and was a faithful and loving son, husband and father. It was his rare privilege to make many friends everywhere he went. Not only will his presence be missed by the loved ones, but also by those who counted him among his friends. (Funeral details followed.)
