Nancy Anna Clements was the daughter of Jesse C. Clements and Lupina Pynes. Nancy's siblings were Fair, John, Mary J., Lydia, and Capitola Clements. Her grandparents were Fair Pynes and Maryanna Creech. Nancy was born in Alabama and emigrated with her family to Louisiana where she married James Madison Roberts in 1866.
