The youngest son of William P. Cockrell and Anna Fiedler, Jerome married Lenora Peters on 07 Nov 1941 in Wright City, Warren County, Missouri. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor exactly 1 month later.

During the early years of their marriage, Jerome served in the United States Army. He returned to Calhoun County following his service time in World War II.

Jerome was a grain and livestock farmer. He worked as a maintenance man for the Calhoun School District for several years.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Batchtown.

Jerome died exactly 1 month after his 88th birthday at Christian Hospital Northeast. He was survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on 08 Mar 1995 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin. Funeral services were conducted there at 11 a.m. the following morning. Graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion. Jerome was buried next to his wife, Lenora, who passed away in 1993.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to the Calhoun County Ambulance Service.
