They lived in St. Louis, Missouri, but moved to Calhoun County, Illinois in the 1920's. They were the parents of 3 children.
During the early years of their marriage, James worked for the Patent Pulley Company in St. Louis. He was a clerk in a feed store during the Great Depression. By 1940, he was unemployed, but Annie was a cook for the W.P.A.
James died in 1942.
In her later years, Annie moved to Vandalia, Fayette County, Illinois where her daughter, Marie, lived.
At the time of her death at Fayette County Hospital, Annie was 94 years, 8 months and 6 days old. She was survived by 2 daughters, Marie Bristow of Vandalia, and Virginia Wich of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 1 son, William Allen of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Minnie Bell of Batchtown; and 1 brother, Jerome Cockrell of Batchtown.
Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. on 20 Sep 1984 at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin. Funeral services were conducted there at 3 p.m. the following afternoon. Annie was buried next to her husband, James.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
