Nelle B. Zundel, age 87, passed away on December 22, 2000, in Orem, Utah.

She was the wife of Ivan E. Zundel and they had lived in Provo, Utah since moving from El Paso, Texas in 1990.

She was the eldest daughter of George and Ruby S. Brown who were well known in the Mormon Colonies of Mexico and later were early settlers in the Mormon community in El Paso.

She is survived by her husband, Ivan, of Provo, Utah; a son, I. Brown Zundel of Tucson, Arizona; daughters, Dorothy Nelle Furniss of Cedar Hills; and Ruby Jo Lewis of Orem, Utah; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern Hyer of Nampa, Idaho; and a brother, Rulon Brown of Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was a gifted musician and conductor who was largely self-taught through diligent personal effort, practice and detailed observation of the finest musicians she was able to seek out.

For years, that extended well into her 70's, she was asked to perform solos and she was both ward and stake choir directors for youth and adult choirs for nearly 50 years in the El Paso area.

She considered her greatest joy in her life the privilege of directing choirs that were able to perform for many of the general authorities that visited the El Paso area.

She was also honored to be the secretary to her husband as he provided patriarchal blessings to over 350 of the saints in the El Paso Stake.

Nelle loved the mountains, birds, beautiful sunsets, roses and all of God's gifts of nature.

She will be remembered by her posterity for her devoted service to her parents during extended illnesses.

Also, she provided loving service to her husband in his retirement years and demonstrated her supernal faith to support him while he served a two and a half year mission to Uruguay in the early 1950's leaving her to provide and care for their two children and their youngest daughter who was born while he was gone.

Her oft quoted phrase "Always have the faith to serve where and when called" is a legacy that is characteristic of her wonderful example to her posterity.

A favorite scripture was "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart: yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads: (D&C 25:12) Surely she has qualified for that blessing.

Funeral services under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem will be held Saturday, December 30, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in the Cedar Hills 1st Ward Chapel, 4355 West Cedar Hills Drive.
