Fern Brown Hyer, 90, passed away at her home in Nampa, Idaho, the morning of December 31, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the LDS chapel at 2212 East Amity Avenue in Nampa. There will also be a viewing at the church between 10:00 to 10:45 AM.
Burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell will follow the funeral services. Arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa.

Fern was born in April 1923 in Chuichupa, Chihuahua, Mexico, to George and Ruby Brown. She was the fifth of six siblings. When she was five years old the family moved to El Paso, Texas, where Fern attended school and graduated from Austin High School. Fern attended Utah State University in Logan Utah, where she met her future husband Harold R. Hyer. They were married on September 17, 1946 in the LDS Temple in Mesa Arizona. Their first child, Janell, was born in El Paso, Texas. Harold went to work for Carnation Company and worked for several years in Arkansas and Texas before being transferred to Nampa, Idaho in 1949 where a second child, Michael Harold Hyer, was born. Fern and Harold and their family also lived in Afton, Wyoming for six years, returning to Nampa in 1966 where both Harold and Fern lived the remainder of their lives. Harold passed away in 1999. Fern was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in church and civic affairs. She served with Harold as ordinance workers in the Boise LDS Temple for over ten years. Fern was an accomplished vocalist and choir director, directing numerous choirs for many years, including a choir at the original dedication of the Boise LDS Temple in 1984. She also directed performances of Handel's Messiah and the Promised Valley musical.
Fern is survived by her children Janell Hyer and Michael Hyer and grandchildren Alisa Hammond, Andy Hyer, Dave Hyer and Daniel Hyer and great grandchildren David, Mary and Sara Hammond, Caleb and Annika Hyer and Diego Hyer.
