Our patriarch, Ivan Eberhart Zundel, passed away peacefully in his 93rd year on August 21, 2001, in Cedar Hills, Utah.

He was born Sept. 4, 1908, in Layton, Arizona.

He married Nelle Brown April 17, 1934, in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple.

She preceded him to her eternal rest on Dec. 22, 2000.

They had lived in Provo, Utah since moving from El Paso, Texas in 1990.

Most recently he was living with his daughter and her husband, Dorothy and Gene Furniss.

He was the sixth of nine children of the late Jacob and Euphemia Zundel of Phoenix, Arizona.

He is survived by his son, I. Brown Zundel, Tucson, AZ; daughters, Dorothey Nelle Furniss, Cedar Hills; and Ruby Jo Lewis, Orem, UT; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lila Harris, Stanwood, WA; and brothers, Don, Phoenix, AZ; and Lloyd, Wayne, Michigan.

He retired in 1977 after working since his teen years as a meat cutter for Safeway stores and El Paso Meat Company in El Paso, Texas.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a President of the 320th Quorum of Seventy, Stake Sunday School President, and member of a bishopric and as a Stake Patriarch.

Ivan was described by his wife as quiet of nature, almost self-effacing, quick to give credit to anyone else and beloved by family and admired by his fellow workers in and out of the church.

He served church missions in Czechoslovakia as the seventh missionary called from the states in 1930 and later served as an adult in Uruguay in the early 1950's leaving his young family and a daughter that was born while he was gone.

He will be revered by his posterity for his support to his wife who together provided devoted care and service to her parents during extended illnesses.

His oft quoted phrase "Always have the faith to serve where and when called" is a legacy that is characteristic of his wonderful example to his posterity.

Funeral services under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem, will be held Tuesday, August 28th at 3 p.m. in the Manilla First Ward, 9394 No. 4000 W., Pleasant Grove.

Friends may call Tuesday from 1:45-2:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church.

Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
