Jennie Lamance was the daughter of James P. and Cynthia Hannah (Caldwell) Lamance. She was born in McDonald County, Missouri where she married Moses Robnett DeGroff on 4 Mar 1875. Her children were also born in Pineville. She was the mother of seven; Edgar Newton, William H., Bess, Edna, Adelaide, Robnett, and Jennie Fern. Robnett died as an infant and William died at the age of 22.

Obituary-"Mrs. Jennie L. DeGroff, widow of the late M. R. DeGroff, died at her home in Springfield, Mo., Thursday evening Nov. 25, after a lingering illness from Bright's disease and Rheumatism. Mrs. DeGroff was born June 25, 1856, near where the town of Southwest City now is, and resided in Pineville most of her life, moving to Springfield when Mr. DeGroff was appointed receiver of the U. S. land office there about 22 years ago. Five children survive her. They are Mrs. N. C. Stephens, Sedalia; Mrs. Charles Boone(should be Boon) and Mrs. Charles Platte, Springfield, Mrs. Ralph Berger, Los Angeles, and Edgar DeGroff, employed in the examing department of the state auditor's office."
