John Charles Thompson, aged 88 years,10 months and 10 days, died Friday June 13,1997, in a private care home in Clintonville West Virginia after a long illness.

He was a retired farmer,former Greenbrier County Deputy Assessor and a member of Maude Chapel Methodist Church at Dawson.

Surviving: wife, Merlene Houchins Hunter Thompson; daughters, Ruth Gladwell of Hampton, Virginia, Maye Staley of Kinston, North Carolina, Betty White of Douglasville, Georgia, Myrtle Fitzwater of Dawson, West Virginia; son, Charles E Thompson of Renick, West Virginia; sisters, Christine Glidewell of Lennig, Virginia, Mary Bailey of Morganza, Maryland, Jane Thompson of Wilmington, Deleware; brothers, Joe Thompson of Lewisburg, West Virginia, Jerry Thompson of San Francisco, California; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren.

Service was 11a.m.Monday June 16th at Maude Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roland Armstrong officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
