Jaynes Mayfield Smith, 68, of South Tenth street, died at 2:10 p.m. at St. John's Hospital as a result of injuries suffered Feb. 15, 1927, when he was struck at 11th & Cook streets by an automobile. He was survived by wife Mrs. Margarite A. Fitzpatrick Smith, sons Joudsous E and Pearl Smith, daughters Mrs. Noah Martin, Mrs. Walter Etchason, Mrs. Lola Woods, Mrs. Chester Howard and Mrs. Charles Moore, brothers Curtis and Mawery Smith, sisters Mrs. Mary Hollister and Lolista Connelly [sic/Letitia Conley] and fifteen grandchildren.

Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, Volume 1, page 104, Lic. No. 1422, Clay County. The County Clerk/Recorder noted that they no longer have "Book 1" and "Book A" Marriage License Records.
