Bert Burkman Dies, Was Kicked by Horse --
This community was shocked to hear of the death of Bert D. Burkman which occurred at his home in Palmer just past midnight last Saturday night, as the result of blood clots forming following injuries received Tuesday afternoon of last week when he was kicked and trampled by a horse at the Clinton Hiett farm southwest of Palmer.
Mr. Burkman was apparently well on the way to recovery when the embolism occurred which quickly proved fatal.
Mr. Burkman was born in Iowa on February 19, 1877, and passed away on the morning of April 18th, 1937, at the age of 60 years, 1 month, 29 days.
When five years of age he came to Nebraska with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Burkman, they settling on a farm northeast of Palmer, and near what has always been known as the Burkman pond.
On April 28th, 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Edwards at Wolbach, Nebraska. They have resided continuously in the Palmer community up to the time of his passing away.
He leaves to mourn his wife, two brothers, Frank of Central City and Clifford of Grand Island, two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Yarman of Grand Island and Mrs. Genevieve Parsons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; many other relatives and a large number of friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. G. Darling at the Christian Church in Palmer, on the afternoon of April 20, interment was made in the Palmer cemetery.
The pall bearers were John Miller, Alf Prince, T. H. Snyder, D. Roeboeltmans, Charles Barth and John Gallagher.
The flower assistants were Mrs. John Kamerer, Mrs. James Bahensky, Mrs. Mark Colborn and Mrs. John Knapp.
