Bertha Beyer, nee Zillman [sic] was born December 8, 1870, at Graudenz, West Prussia, Germany. Here she was baptized and confirmed. In the spring of 1889 she came to the United States, settling with her uncle at Grand Island, Nebr.
She was united in holy wedlock with Carl Beyer on the 11th day of August 1889. To this union, which lasted over 31 years, was born 5 boys and 6 girls; two of these Carl, aged 7, and Wm. aged 27, preceded her to the Great Beyond.
She lived on a farm about three miles north of Grand Island until about 6 years ago, when they moved to Palmer, and here she passed away Friday, April 8, after a long and weary illness, being bedfast for over 3 months. At the time of her death she was 51 years and 4 months old.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, 3 sons, John and Carl Henry of Palmer and Walter of the U.S. Army at San Francisco, Cal.; 6 daughters, Bertha, Esther, Emma, Mary, Clara and Rosie; 2 sisters, Mrs. Anna Kruse of Palmer, and Mrs. Mary Bruns who lives near Atkinson; one brother, Frank Zillman of Wattertown [sic], Wis., and her aged mother who lives at Atkinson, Nebr.

Upon her arrival in Nebraska, but before marriage, Bertha's guardian was her uncle, Jacob Zillmann, b. 23 Jul 1832, Rehden, Graudenz, West Prussia; d. 11 Feb 1916, Grand Island, Hall Co., NE.
