"The Palmer Journal" [Palmer, Merrick Co., NE], 15 Apr 1943 [transcription by Linda Berney]:

Remains of the body of a child, unearthed from an unmarked grave March 22 while excavation was under way at the army air base and later identified as those of Carl J. F. Beyer, Jr., were taken yesterday to Palmer by Lee E. Nicholas, Palmer funeral director, for interment in the cemetery there.

Identification was made possible by information of relatives, County Attorney John F. McCarthy said.

Carl Beyer, born May 11, 1890, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. F. Beyer, Sr., and was about six years of age when he died, relatives informed the county attorney. Both parents are deceased, his father having died last June 6.

In the work of excavation one of the handles of the casket was brought up. The county attorney said the excavation came just to the edge of the grave and failed by less than a yard of leaving the grave undisturbed.
