Lois earned her education in rural school and graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1942. She taught rural school. She was married to Ernest (Bud) Philben on April 12, 1947, and to this union a son Donald Duane and a daughter Karen Ann were born. Ernest was killed in a tractor accident in August 1962, leaving Lois to raise her two children.
Lois worked several years for Dan Prentice and Larry Goodrich in their businesses in Springview. In 1967 Lois and her daughter attended beauty school. Lois worked in her own beauty shop from 1969 to 1980. She enjoyed her work very much. She always missed her friends when she quit working. It gave her great pride when her friends and clients said they missed her.
On July 12, 1980, she married Wayne Vawser of Bassett and moved to Bassett where she lived until her death. Wayne and Lois traveled and spent the winters in Arizona. Lois and Wayne had made many friends wherever they traveled. They enjoyed their short time together very much. Wayne died on December 3, 1983.
Lois will always be remembered by all who knew her as a fun and jolly person. We will miss her laugh. She had great love for her family and friends. Lois always loved rocking and singing to her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, letter writing and some handy work.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Audrey Gibson, husband Ernest Philben, husband Wayne Vawser and also Wayne’s mother Mabel, whom she thought so much of. She is survived by her son Don, and daughter Karen, brother Armand Carr and wife, grandson Lance and wife Roxanne and great granddaughter Ciara all of Springview, Melissa and Mitch of Valentine and Wayne’s daughter Darlene and husband Clifford Whitney of Broke Bow and son Leo of Colorado, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
