Celia was my Great-Grandaunt.

She was the seventh of nine children born to David Starkey BOND and Mary Elizabeth BUTLER.

She was married to Lester Ewell DYKE on February 24th, 1904, in Eagle City, OK. Lester was a Mormon minister.

To this union one child was born: Raymond.

*Memories of Aunt Celie"

Aunt Celie was a strong Christian and a warmhearted, loving, kind, generous, and honest person. She set high standards for herself and expected others to do the same. Wherever she went, she brought laughter and smiles with her. She and her sisters were known for their constant talking, hearty laughter, good natures, generosity, love of family, loyalty to their families and great cooking skills.

When visiting the Dykes in Eagle City, a child could plan on Aunt Celie preparing your favorite foods, allowing you to take penny candy from the jars in their general store, and being paraded at church like you were visiting royalty.

Aunt Celie had a root cellar well stocked with blankets, cots, oil burning lanterns, quart jars of water, crackers, and some candies. The cellar was used for storage for items for their store so apples, potatoes, and other fruits and vegetables were in it as well. The cellar was also used whenever there was a tornado alarm and as you can tell, it was well supplied.

Aunt Celie was a "Rock of Gibraltar" and, when there was a serious illness or death in the family, she came and offered any assistance needed. She prayed with and for everyone, offered words of comfort and saw to it that food was available at all times. She was a true blessing to everyone.
