Cora was my Great-Grandaunt

She was the oldest of nine children born to David Starkey BOND and Mary Elizabeth BUTLER.

On May 17, 1888, she was married to Isaac DOWELL, son of Peter Clingman DOWELL and Hester Delaney BROWN.

Together they had four children.

My great-aunt Cora died in a runaway buggy accident. After her death her father forbade any of his daughters to drive a buggy alone. Even though Cora died at an early age she had many, many descendants - many of whom I have recently met in person.

The Alma Signal (Alma, KS) 2 Oct 1903, Pg 8

DIED

September 22, Cora Dowell, wife of Isaac Dowell, after an illness of five weeks. It seems that help could not be given her and it was God's will she must go. Rev. Peems of White City, performed the last sad rites, after which the remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Mount cemeter, Thursday. The diseased was 33 years, 5 months, and 12 days old and leaves a husband and four children to mourn her loss. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

"Thou art gone but not forgotten
In that grave so cold and chilled:
But there is a vacant place within they home
Which never can be filled."
