Paul Uhlig Had Many Friends

His Death Friday Was Shock To Community

Paul Uhlig, probably one of the most widely known men in the county, not because of renown or fame, but because of his friendly associations in the rural communities, died at his home Friday at three o'clock, four hours after he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage. He had not been in good health for about four years, but his boundless energy and ambition kept him at his work as a salesman for the St. Joseph News-Press and Occo Mineral Company.

Mr. Uhlig had a most interesting life. He was born Paul Julius Uhlig, August 28, 1878, in Langensalza, germany. He came to The United States in 1896, locating at St. Joseph, Mo. He had only a common school education, but was self educated and possessed a wide vocabularly, a practical knowledge of the world. He was married March 2, 1898 to Opal Dean Adams at St. Joseph, and after thier marriage they lived in Northwest Missouri where he was engaged in various types of work. He owned and operated his own farm for 25 years; served as a township assessor, school board member and in other community services. He was cashier of the Allendale, Mo. Bank and was employed or years by the Worth Mutual Telephone Company in Northwest, Missouri.

The family moved to Seneca in 1932 and have made this their home since. They lived in their present home the past seven years. Mr. Uhlig has been active in church life, having been a member and a board official of the Congregational Church, also president of the Dynamo Class. He enjoyed associations with people and called many by their first name.

In addition to Mrs. Uhlig, seven children survive their father, John F. Uhlig, Weston, Mo., Robert E. and Frances J. Uhlig, Kansas City, Kansas., Paul Allen Uhlig, of the home; Mrs. Hobart Nutter of Seneca; Mrs. C.E. Clark, Trenton, Mo., and Theodore B. Uhlig, address unknown. There are also 11 grandchildren, one grandson, John F. Uhlig Jr., in the U.S. Navy.

The funeral was held at two thirty Sunday afternoon in the Congregational Church with Rev. H.C. Marlatt officiating. The church choir sang favorite hymns.

Paul bearers were as follows: Honorary: Dr. J.C. Grindle, Dr. C.B. Hash. Joe Mohlman, Charles Gartin, Otis Nutter, Henry Liening; Active: John F., Robert E., Paul A., Frances J. Uhlig, C.E. Clark and L. Hobert Nutter. Interment was made in the city cemetery.
