THE MOVE TO MICHIGAN FROM NEW YORK STATE:

Harriet and Sylvester Rice and children planned to move with her widowed mother Mary (Russell) Warner from Walworth, Wayne, NY to Homer, Calhoun, MI in 1844 by boat at Buffalo and continue their journey south and west, but because the boat was overloaded and a storm was coming up, they removed all of their personal goods and continued to Michigan by the overland route. The story is told as it was recounted to Russell-10 Lewis Warner, GRS, by Gladys (Rice) Bullen in about 1968 who was living there or visiting family in Coldwater, Calhoun, MI.

And when the stories can be backed up by family notes, and in this case, also by the 'pie chest' which was in the possession of Donna (King) Conley of Coldwater, Branch, MI in 1968, it makes for interesting reading indeed.
