Lila Martha Burrowes was born August 7, 1900 at Mount Ida, Kansas, the youngest child of Eden and Martha Burrowes.
She lived in Kansas until the age of 14 at which time the family moved to Genevieve, Montana where she resided for 15 years.
She was united in marriage to Clarence G Hillary at Unionville, Missouri and in October 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Hilleary and two daughters moved to Villisca where they have since resided.
Mrs Hillerary, 50, died at her home Saturday morning after an illness of several months. She had been hospitalized at Omaha and Corning for nearly three months since last August and had been bedfast at her home for three months.
Mrs. Hilleary suffered a light stroke August 8, 1959 while enjoying one of favorite hobbies fishing and boating at Viking Lake. She had waged a brave battle against an incurable ailment but succumbed to it February 27, 1960 at her home at the age of 59 years, 7 months, and 21 days.
She was the youngest of 11 children and was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Clara, Mae, and Veva.
Mrs. Hilleary was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, having served as Montgomery County president and was past president of Ker-A-Vor Auxillary. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Garden Club, Arts and Crafts and for several years had operated a ceramic studio and given lessons in the work at her home.
She becomes a member of the Methodist Church at Glenwood, Kansas, at the age of 12.
Surviving her husband, Clarence, superintendent of the Villisca Municipal Power Plant; two daughters, Mrs. Donald K. Patton, Harlan, Iowa and Mrs. Phil B. Hayes, Neligh, Nebraska. three sisters, Miss Emma Burrowes, Oak Park, Illinois and Mrs. Fannie Bowling, Polson, Montana, both of whom have been assisting with her care here and Mrs. Flora Bailey, Nelson, Montana; four brothers, Walter Burrows, Greeley, Kansas; Omer Burrowes, Garnett, Kansas; Harvey Burrowes, Have, Montana, and Wilbur Burrowes, Dotson, Montana; three grandsons and four granddaughters.
