James Ayers was born Aug. 29, 1841, a son of William and Sallie (Sutten) Ayers. He married Elizabeth Jane Scott on Nov. 17, 1880. To this union were born seven children, three of whom died in infancy with the four surviving being Stella D. Hardesty, Henry A., Iva M. and W. Frederick Ayers.
