As a young man John left his parents home and traveled to Iowa with his Uncle Isaac ( youngest brother to his father, William Boyle ) who was just a few years older then John.
The two young adventurers spend almost two years in Iowa with Isaac's widowed mother before "Gold Fever " caught hold of them, they headed to California to pan for gold. It's unknown if John ever returned home to see his family before his death.

THE ARGONAUTS OF ‘49.
The Jefferson County 49ers Who Made the Overland Trip to
California.
By Hiram Heaton
On the 27th of April, 1849, a considerable company of men started from Fairfield to reach California overland. The greater number were young men, many of them in their teens, although a few were old men, Mr. Dickey, who had kept a hotel in early days, being one of them. Others were John Fee, Robt. Hill, *John and Isaac Boyle*, James Freeman, James Hardin and brother Evan, J. Nelson Bell, Shuffleton, Baker, and many others. With them were two boys from what is now known as the Glendale neighborhood, John Kyle and Eugenus Parsons. Parsons was a son of J. R. Parsons. Their teams consisted of four yoke of cattle, of which one yoke were cows.

From " In old Canyonville" from the Pioneer Museum in Canyonville, it states " and then came Isaac Boyle, who with *his nephew* from Tizwell County, Kentucky;( correction, Tazewell County, Virginia )~ Charley Kimmel, a young German, and Joel Thorne, a carpenter who built the first family residence and a saloon.

John came to Oregon with his Uncle Isaac, he has been mistaken in records for Isaac's brother. John is the son to Isaac's brother William Henry Boyle.Isaac's brother John Boyle is the father to Henry Green Boyle and six other children.

John T. Boyle married Lavinia Caroline Ford, June 6, 1854 in Canyonville, Douglas County, Oregon.Lavinia Caroline's sister Josephine Pauline Ford married John T Boyle's Uncle, Dr.James Whitten Boyle, brother to Isaac Lee Boyle.

John and his family are living next to his Uncle Isaac and wife Phoebe( this writers great grandparents) in 1860 . John and Caroline went to California sometime after 1861 as their son John Lee was born there in 1862 and son Marcus E. in 1864, Caroline was back in Polk County by 1870, without John, no more records except when Caroline died in 1874 there were guardianship papers filed meaning John was either dead or where a bouts unknown,. This writers thoughts are he died in California or was committed and died in the state hospital. I hesitate to say for fact as I do not know. Verify and re-verify information I always say.
