St. John, July 2, Lorenzo Palmer, aged 62 years. The deceased came from the east to the Pacific Coast in 1846 and was one of the early pioneers of the Palouse Country. His death resulted from a stroke of paralysis, a former stroke some years ago has left him partially helpless.

Son of General Joel Palmer, an Oregon pioneer; served in the Indiana legislature; guide of Oregon emigrant train over Oregon Trail; author of PALMER'S JOURNAL; a founder of Dayton in Yamhill County, Oregon; said to be the first pioneer to climb Mt. Hood, where "Palmer Glacier" is named for him; served in Oregon legislature; prominent in a woolen mill and railway interests; Indian wars general; superintendent of Indian Affairs in Oregon, and removed because of his kindness to the Indians.

Lorenzo Palmer came to Oregon in 1847, was a volunteer in the Yakima Indian War of 1855-1856, appears in the deed records of Yamhill County, Oregon, and was a pioneer of not only Yamhill County, Oregon but also of eastern Washington territory, settling in Whitman County in 1862 with his family.
