This was published on the front page of the Sylvia Sun, Sylvia, Kansas on 23 Jan 1947 and the clipping kept by the sister of his grandmother. "John Conard (sic) Lang, eldest son of Peter and Henrietta Lang, was born December 13, 1870, and departed this life 6 minutes after midnight early on January 18, 1947, at the age of 76 years, 1 month, and 4 days. He was the first of 10 children to pass away. The others are: Laura Moeckel, Fred, Otto, and Henry of Sylvia, Kansas; Amelia Blanchfield, Willie, and Albert of Hutchinson, Kansas; Phillip of Fowler, Kansas; and Edward of Pasadena, California.

"He moved with his parents to a farm 9 miles north of Sylvia, Kansas when he was still a small boy. "He was converted when a young man in the German Methodist Church north of Sylvia and took an active part in church work. "He was united in marriage to Ida Rosena Hofen. sic April 30, 1893. To this union 10 children were born: Roy, Ruth, and Crester (Chester) of the home; Ester Polson and Carl of Dacoma, Alvin of Portland, Oregon; and twins Earl, and Ella, Earl of Bend, Oregon, and Ella Shields of Kansas City, Missouri. Two children preceded him in death: Archie at the age of 2 years, and Georgia Blanche Shutt at the age of 24.
"He moved with his family in December, 1898, to a farm northwest of Augusta-which was then in Indian Territory-and resided there until August, 1924, when he moved with his family to Dacoma, where he lived until his death.
"He was in business until his health failed, and as long as he was able to walk to the table, God gave him strength to give Thanks for our food. He worked hard, was a good provider, a loving father, a fine neighbor, and was always interested in community affairs and the betterment of the neighborhood.
"He took a very active part in Pleasant View Church and later, in 1928, transferred his membership to the United Brethren Church in Dacoma. He has been a teacher, Sunday School Superindent, trustee, board member, and class leader during his years of service in the church. He always enjoyed the song services, and it was always an inspiration to him to spend the evening at home singing hyms. sic
"He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife, 7 brothers, 2 sisters, 8 children, 8 grandchildren, many other relatives, and a host of friends."
