Nancy was born in Clark County, Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Bivens) Rogers. Her family was in Indiana by 1833 where her brother William was born and in Essex Township, Porter County near the La Porte County line by 1850. Her father was a farmer.

She married Rufus Sovereign on October 6, 1851 in La Porte County. The couple settled in Jackson Township, Porter County, Indiana (which is also near the La Porte County line). Her husband was a farmer.

Theadotia
