An excerpt from a letter to my Great Grandparents about their son Jimmy.

From the Headquarters, Army Air Forces
Washington
Dated August 2, 1944
"Further information has been recieved indicating that Sergeant Maluda was a crew member of a B-24(Liberator)bomber which departed from England on a bombardment mission to Bremen, Germany on December 20, 1943. Full details are not available, but the report indicates that during this mission while over the target, your son's Liberator sustained damage from enemy antiaircraft fire and was losing altitude when last sighted."

Also

Department of the Army
Deptartment of the Adjutant General

"Your son was a crew member aboard a B-24 type aircraft, No. 42-7534. which failed to return to it's base after a bombing mission to Delmenhorst, Germany. No definite infomation concerning the loss of the crew is available, other than the statement of another member of the formation that the plane was hit by antiaircraft fire over the target and that it was slowly losing altitude when last seen.

The records of the Department of the Army are, therefore, being amended to show that Sergeant Maluda was killed in action on 20 December 1943 when his plane was forced down into the North Sea by enemy action."
