MISCELLANIOUS:
WRITTEN BY ELMER M. DAVIS MARCH 4, 1914
Elmer Davis was born April 14, 1867. I was raised on a farm until I was of age. We lived on a ridge between Fishcreek and Rattlesnake. The ground was rough, filled of rocks, snakes and other wild animals. I worked in the timber a great deal. My father was a blacksmith. Us boys had the work to do on the farm. I spent one year in Green County and then went from there to Tippiconoe County, I worked there four years and then I was tired of living by myself. I got married to Minnie M. Gates. So me and my helpmate moved to town and got along very well. We lived one year in Indiana and then moved to Illinois. We lived there four year and while we was there there was a boy came to our house and we named him Ivan. After living there four years we moved back to Indiana and moved on a farm. We lived there a short time and then we moved to the town of Spencer. Lived there a short time and then went from there to Texas. From there to Wichita, Kansas. We have bought us a little home in Wichita and are trying to pay for it by hard knocks. I tell you it is a hard job. My wife is not very strong but does the best she can. Our boy goes to high school so he don't have much time to do anything. We all go to church when we can, that is our duty. We have a nice church and some good people. Our home is not as nice as some but more pleasant than others. I am away from home every night. We are having some winter now the ground is white with snow. The spring birds will soon be here, the snow will soon leave the ground and the earth will begin to look green. Then every one will get busy with the hoe and the rake. The women will be in the garden with their bonnets on with their pan in their hand with their garden seeds in it. We have been here six years and are doing very well. Our boy is a lot of company for us. We are getting old and it may be he can help us some day. Our parents are nearly all gone and we have to make our own way and we are getting some age on us. We will soon be old. Signed Elmer Davis
