Cleo Burr, 88, West Liberty, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, after a sudden illness.

The Rev. Dennis Martin will officiate at memorial services at 10.m. Saturday, January 15 , St. Joseph Church, West Liberty. Burial of the cremains will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Burr was born March 5, 1916, in Johnson County, the son of Clarence and Irene (Smith) Burr. He married Lenora Lynch January. 9, 1940. She preceded him in death December 10, 1965, at Mercy Hospital. On December 21, 1966 Cleo married Geraldine White Coker Morrison. She preceded him in death December 22, 2001.

He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1936 and was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Church.

Cleo and Geraldine had spent their whole life farming, raising chickens, vegetable gardening, and growing popcorn to share with family and their many friends. Their pastime was going to antique tractor sales, flea markets, visiting their extended families in other states from time to time including air force bases where step family was based, as well as stretching out the banquet tables for family gatherings on their four season porch for birthdays and holidays. He planted many perennial flowers in the yard containers as well as the roadside bank including orchard trees with a border of evergreens. Cleo was so proud of the trees that grace the perimeter of his 7 acre home place. He retired from farming in 1982. Mr. Burr later moved to Heath Manor in 1993.

Survivors include five children, Ronald Burr of Lone Tree, Daryl Burr and wife, Judy, of Homestead, Janet Probst and husband, Steve, of Bowie, Md., Joyce Jenkins and husband, Warren, of Ankeny and Tom Burr of West Liberty; 12 grandchildren, Mitchell and Angela Burr, Brandon and Amanda Burr, Clint Probst and wife, Rachel, Jenny Blevins and husband, Mike, Leah Probst and Clayton Probst, Matt Jenkins and Chrissy Cochran and husband, Mitch, Stephanie and Ryan Burr; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Iona Burr Waite of West Liberty and Ruby Burr Larson of Easton, Md.; brothers, Harvey Burr and wife, June, of West Liberty and Lon Burr and wife, Lynn, of Carthage, Mo.; a stepson, Ed Morrison and wife, Mary, and their family; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both wives; a brother, Chet; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Sue Burr.
