SILVER ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar A. Hartman of 11 Charles street will quietly observe thier 25th wedding aniversary next Saturday. They were married Jan. 12, 1910, at the Methodist Episcopal church by the late Rev. N. B. Fiske, then pastor of that church.

Mrs. Hartman was formerly Miss Florence Banks of Tapleyville. She is now connected with the First Baptist church and is also a member of the church choir.

Mr. Hartman is well known in this town and surrounding communities as a piano tuner and teacher. He was formerly associated with the Lefavour Music house of Salem. He is also organist and choir director of teh Federated church of Topsfield.

There have three children to bless their family circle, Lucy B., Warren A., and Clifton L. Hartman.

Obituary of Oscar Hartman

PEABODY - Oscar A. Hartman, 86, of 22 Margin St., well-known North Shore piano tuner and repairman for the past 55 years, died Nov. 3 in a local nursing home following a brief illness. Born in Danvers, Nov 3, 1885,he was the son of the late Charles E. and Nellie (Russell) Hartman.

He lived in Danvers most of his life, before moving to Peabody 11 years ago.

Mr. Hartman was a highly talented musician when, at age 15, he became the organist and choir director at the Old North Church in Marblehead and later in the same capacity at the Methodist Church in Tapleyville, Danvers, and the former Federated Church of Topsfield.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danvers and the Knights of Pythias, No. 157, of Danvers.

Surviving him is a daughter, Lucy Hartman of Peabody, with whom he made his home; two sons, Warren A. Hartman of Danvers and the Rev. Cliford L. Hartman of Groton; a sister, Mrs. Sidney (Nellie) Newton of Peabody; four grandchildren, a great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Paul D. Aita, pastor of the First Baptist Churck of Danvers, officiated at services held in the Peterson Funeral Home, Danvers on Nov. 6.

Oscar was a 9th great grandson of Stephen Hopkins and his first wife Mary. He descends through his daughter Constance and also through their son Giles. Stephen Hopkins was one of the original passages on the Mayflower. He was also the only Mayflower passenger to have first been also part of the settlement of Jamestown, VA. He is also a descendent of John Proctor from Salem Village. John, his 7th gr grandfather, and his 6th gr grandparents, Benjamin and Mary (Buckley) Proctor, were all accused of witchcraft in the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. John was hanged 19 Aug 1692, his son and daughter-in-law were spared as the Trials ended before execution could be carried out.
