Obituary of Charles E. Hartman (as originally published)

Charles E. Hartmann, 125 Pine Street, died yesterday morning at his home following a short illness in his 80th year. He was born in Springvale, Me. a son of Charles and Elizabeth (Welch) Hartman, but had lived in town most of his life. A shoemaker by trade, the deceased was well known locally.

Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Margaret E. Hartman; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Bennett and Mrs. Chester E. Ferris of Danvers and Mrs. Sidney Lewton of Peabody; two sons, Oscar A. of Danvers and Roy E. of Providence, R.I.; two brothers, Herbert and Hervey of Danvers; one sister, Mrs. Esther Klingermann of Redlands, Cal.; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Sundy at 2:30 P.M. Friends may pay their respects at the Clarence R. Lyons and Son Funeral Home.

NOTE: Hartmann should have been spelled Hartman; Lewton should by Newton; Esther is actually Ethelle. The service was Sunday July 7, 1946. Rev. James M. Clemons officiated; Mrs. Bernard Kennedy was the soloist. Bearers were Rodney Bennett, Frank Bennett, and Warren Hartman - grandsons; Chester Ferris and Donald Wood - In-laws; and Peter Erickson from the School St. Advent Church.

Charles E. Hartman and Margaret E. Russell were married on 6-May-1885 at the First Baptist Church of Beverly, Essex County, Massachusetts. In the Danvers town records of the marriage, Margaret Russell is called Nellie M. Russell, Charles E. Hartman is referred to as Charles E. Heartman. They were both listed as being 18 years old. They were married by Rev. Gideon Cole of Beverly.
