Death claimed a well known citizen of this community Sunday when William George Nelson of Sunrise Lake, died at the hospital here. Following is the obituary that was submitted to the County Press following the services held Tuesday afternoon.

George William Nelson was born July 4, 1899 in Chisago Lake Township, the son of Charles Daniel Nelson and his wife Caroline (nee Dahlberg) who farmed just north of Center City. A few weeks after his birth he was baptized July 30, 1899. He attended Center City Grade School, located on the property owned by Louis Anderson. As a lad of fifteen he was confirmed on May 7, 1914 at the Chisago Lakes Lutheran Church Center City in one of the classes of Pastor J E Oslund. He was a lifelong member of the church of his baptism and confirmation. On June 28, 1925, as a young man of twenty six years, he took his bride in the person of Hildur Eveline Holm of Center City being married by Pastor Sandahl at the parsonage.

During all their married life the couple lived on the same farm north of Lindstrom on the edge of Sunrise Lake. Nine children were given to this marriage. Except for Marian Caroline Mathilda, who preceded her father in death February 27, 1946 all the children survive and are saddened by the death of their father. They are Gladys, Mrs. John Muncil of Excelsior) Evelyn (Mrs. David Bleifuss of Lindstrom) Lorraine (Mrs. Lorraine Russ of Mpls) Charles D Nelson of Lindstrom, May (Mrs. Joseph Givens of Tucson Arizona) John and Darlene of the home farm.

A man who loved the great out of doors, George Nelson kept his good health and enjoyed his home and family besides the lake. Alone, and with the members of his family, he would fish, trap, hunt and also make maple syrup. Many happy memories for the family cluster around these activities. He played French Horn in the Chisago Lakes Band, which in its day played at the Minnesota State Fair.

On December 12, 1962 he entered the Chisago Lakes Hospital for a few days of care. For about ten days thereafter he was home until Christmas Day, when it became necessary for him to return to the hospital. It was there early the first Sunday of the new calendar year on January 6, 1963 that he quietly departed this life, having lived to the age of 63 years 6 months and 2 days.

In addition to his own wife and children, he is survived by one sister Adelia (Mrs. Ralph E Johnson of Lindstrom) and by two brothers Fred T Nelson of Center City and Carl J Nelson of Lindstrom. Eight nieces and nephews knew him as "Uncle George". He was "My Grandpa" to six grandchildren.

Interment was at Hillside cemetery of the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Center City, following the service in the church at 2:00 PM Tuesday January 8th.

Pastor W Burdett Benson officiated for the funeral while Mrs. Lois Barott sang, accompanied by Mr. Roger Crary.

Pallbearers were Harold Olson, Raymond Hall, Roy Chellberg, Marvin Nelson, Albin Nicklason and Theodore Mattson.
