She was a native of Cleveland County, a daughter of the late D.C. and Georgia Tessnear Bridges, a homemaker and member of Sandy Run Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Melton.
She is survived by one son, Robert Melton of Shelby; four daughters, Peggy Humphries, Pauline Presson, Rachel Pearson and Margaret McIntyre, all of Shelby; one brother, Bobby Bridges of Mooresboro; nine sisters, Irene Devon of Rutherfordton, Betty Black of Ellenboro, Frances Bland of Spindale, Wray OShields of Waco, Reba Shirlen of Charlotte, Dorothy Jolley of Cliffside, Grace Blanton and Jewel Padgett, both of Ellenboro and Joyce London of Hickory; 16 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will follow in Campfield Memorial Baptist Church
