Bobby Gene Bridges, 78, of Shelby, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Durham, NC.

Born April 8, 1939, in Cleveland County, NC; son of the late D.C. and Georgia Etta Tessneer Bridges.

A veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Brenda McSwain Bridges; son, Kevin Bridges (Amy); daughters, Kelly Collum (Jeff) and Kristi Bridges Sparks; Jewell Bridges Padgett (1936–2018), Grace Bridges Blanton (1934–2019), Dorothy Bridges Jolley (1929–2021), and Reba L. Bridges Shirlen (1927–2020); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and; a very special niece and nephew, Rita and Sam Bridges.

Also preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Champion Bridges (1932–1986) and JZ Bridges; and sisters, Donis Bridges Melton (1914–2003), Betty Bridges Black (1916–2004), Irene Bridges Melton (1917–2005), Lounette Bridges (1919–1920), Frances Bridges Bland (1922–2017), Joyce Bridges London (1936–2017), and Wraye Bridges O'Shields.

Funeral service was held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 23, 2017, in the chapel of Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, officiated by Rev. Mike Frazier and Rev. Brett Willis; burial in Cleveland Memorial Park with Military Honors

The family received friends at the funeral home following the funeral service until 1:00 pm.
