Berlie Hawkins Barnfield, was the son of James and Rebecca Hawkins Barnfield, born Sept. 9, 1884, in Franklin County where he lived until moving to Wayne County.

He married Mary Robertson on Dec. 7, 1902 and was the father of seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Barnfield died in 1918 and he was married a second time on Sept. 24, 1919, to Edna Spriggs. Ten children, one of whom died in infancy were born to them.

Mr. Hawkins had lived in Wayne County for about 30 years. He had lived near Johnsonville the past several years where he operated a small farm and was also in the barber business. He ws 71 years old.

Surviving are his widow, seven sons, seven daughters, two grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The sons are: Paul, John, Harry, Curtis, Burl, Howard, and Billy.
The daughters are: Lillian Bayes, Ruth Carey, Vera Case, Thelma Case, Bernita Porter, Dodothy Daugherty, and Junie Harrell, Jr.

Three brothers and three sisters who survive are: Joe, Dick, and Oscar; Birdie Page, Daisy Overturf, and Bertha Phillips.

Funeral services were conducted at the Johnsonville Baptist church with burial in Johnsonville Cemetery.
