Kenneth was born Nov. 12, 1926 to David and Effie (Crawford) Holton in Lubbock, and he grew up in Lubbock, attending school here. At age 17, with his father's permission, he volunteered for the US Navy. He served on the USS Enterprise as a gunner's mate, participating in several major battles, and was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for his group's work. All three of his brothers also served in World War II.
After the war, Kenneth started working right away for the US Postal Service, and served as a letter carrier for 37 years before his retirement.
Kenneth was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on its Political Action Committee. He was an accomplished golfer and played regularly at Elm Grove Golf Course. He was a Baptist.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Karen Holton of Lubbock; stepdaughters, Alice Creed of Hobbs, NM, Carolyn Merritt of Granbury, Marion Elledge of White Deer; brothers, Alfred and A.B.; sisters, Janelle Padgett and Connie Dean, all of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and another one on the way; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
