After high school Verne worked for Western Union in Jacksonville and Tampa. In 1931 she married Alexander Rowe LaFaye in Pasco County, Florida. They raised their four children in Jacksonville where Verne was active in the PTA and civic organizations. She was an elegant woman.
The Florida Times-Union published her death notice on June 15, 1989, on page 6 of Section B.
"Verne Ake LaFaye, 81, died Monday, June 12, 1989. She is survived by her husband, Al Rowe LaFaye; two daughters, Georgia and Della; son, Al; 3 brothers, Forrest, Paige and Press Ake; and five grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. FRIDAY in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. THURSDAY in the Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Boulevard."
