Aug. Schmidt Funeral Held At Eagle Lake
Funeral services for August Arthur Schmidt,67,of Eagle Lake,were held Wednesday,Dec.19,from Grace Lutheran Church,Eagle Lake,with burial in Lakeside Cemetery.Rev.John Anderson officiated.
Schmidt,who had retired after 28 years employment with Schindler Butane of Eagle Lake,was killed in an auto-train wreck at 8:40 a.m. Sunday,Dec.16,at Borden.
Born Jan.8,1923,near Garwood,he was a son of George and Bertha (Findeisen) Schmidt.He served in the U.S. Army in World War II,including two and a half years overseas.He married Elizabeth Hutchins on Feb.14,1950,at Columbus.He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
His wife survives him,along with one daughter,Linda Schmidt of Brenham;two sons,Bennie Schmidt of Eagle Lake and Richard Schmidt of Manchester,Ga.;five grandchildren;three sisters,Mary Zahradnick and Erna Cloat of Eagle Lake and Alena Richter of Weimar;and one brother,Johnnie Schmidt Sr. of Cat Spring.His parents,two brothers,Arthur and Henry Schmidt,and a sister,Thilda Birdwell,preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Hugo Richter Jr.,Henry Schmidt,Johnnie Schmidt Jr.,Edwin Schmitt,Emil Vasut Jr.,and James Klopsteck.
