He was the grandson of John B. Wood I, the founder of Quincy, IL & Governor of Illinois from 1860-1861. Son of John B. Wood II, He married Edith J. Bugbee on April 3, 1894 in Adams County, IL and had at least 4 children.

John Wood III.

Funeral services for John Wood III, grandson of Gov. John Wood, were held Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Woodland cemetery. Henry Anderson, first reader of the Christian Science church, had charge of the services and Mrs. George Reeves sang.

The remains arrived from Galesburg at 1:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The pall bearers were W. G. Noll, J. H. Bradford, John Sweetring, Elmer W. King, S. J. Hauworth and George Wall.
