GRANDDAUGHTER OF
GOV. WOOD DIES
Mrs. George Mills of St. Louis,
Formerly Lucy Wood of Quincy
Passed Away.
Mrs. George N. Mills, granddaughter of Governor Wood, founder of the city of Quincy, died last night at 10:40 p.m. at her home in St. Louis. She died on the day before her anniversary of her birth, August 11, 1857.
Mrs. Mills was Miss Lucy Wood and was widely known as was the entire Wood family in Quincy. She was born here in the old Wood's home, 611 Broadway, known as Rose Cottage and now no longer standing, and was married here to George Mills, for 37 years auditor of the Burlington road and also widely known throughout this section. He died some years ago. About 15 or 20 years ago the Mills family removed to St. Louis.
Two children survive their mother's death, George Mills of Chicago, and Lucy Mills of St. Louis. The only Quincy relatives now surviving are Daniel Wood, and Mrs. John Wood, an uncle and an aunt of the deceased.
Mrs. Mills was widely known here and greatly admired. Her death will come as sad news to all her many Quincy friends. The body will be brought from St. Louis arriving tomorrow afternoon and burial will be in the Wood lot at Woodland cemetery.
