Loris A. "Coon" Cheramie Sr., 83, a native of Golden Meadow and a resident of Cut Off, died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Larose. Mass will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with burial in the Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.

He is survived by one son, Loris A. Cheramie Jr.; one daughter Laura C. Duet; two brothers, Joseph and Ludgard Cheramie, seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita Duet Cheramie; one infant son; his parents Walzie and Marie Terrebonne Cheramie; three sisters, Paviola Cheramie, Norrisa Cheramie and Viola C. Bergeron; and two brothers, Norris and Antione Cheramie.

He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8538 of Larose. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He worked in the oilfield and retired as a self-employed shrimper.
